Description
American history gets a cool make-over in this Jerry Bruckheimer-produced comedic action thriller. Nicholas Cage plays Ben Gates, the descendent of an early American patriot who has left him information relating to a vast treasure, hidden during the Revolutionary War by the Freemasons. A clue at the north pole sets things in motion, and Ben must use his formidable cryptography skills to decipher puzzles hidden in the most unlikely places--one appears on the dollar bill, and another is on the back of the U.S. constitution. Ben's unscrupulous former partner (Sean Bean) and his gang of thugs are also after the treasure for selfish, evil purposes. A plot to steal the Constitution sets off a 13-colony-wide chase with all the trimmings: cops going after the wrong man, the rescue of a cute female cryptographer (Diane Kruger) who tags along for the ride, and Jon Voight answering the door in the middle of the night as Ben's disapproving father. High-speed editing and a clever script make this an enjoyable history lesson, with Cage's character masquerading as his own versions of Sherlock Holmes, Indiana Jones, and an over-caffeinated Washington D.C. tour guide. He and Kruger demonstrate some fine romantic chemistry, and Justin Bartha gets off some legitimately funny lines as Ben's long-suffering sidekick. Last but not least, Harvey Keitel makes a very cool FBI chief.

This movie is fun to watch and surpisingly to me so is Nicholas Cage's acting in this one. The plot is well-crafted if a bit unbelievable. I have seen this movie several times and enjoyed it every time.
I think this movie was very good and gave a lot of insight of the American history. It is action packed and has an amazing plot. I give both thumbs up for this movie and that this is a movie that any family member will enjoy.
The last reviewer, I'd have to agree, "Silly but fun." maybe that is what makes is good, just good escapism!
Silly, but kind of fun. And far better than "Da Vinci Code" which it vaguely resembles.
I enjoyed this movie much more than I thought I would. It had it all, good acting, humor, action, and a twisted plot. Good vs. Evil and of course the good always wins!
This movie was awesome. The story was so interesting because of the historical aspects and the acting was really good...plus it had a lot of humor. It was clever and intense, and I'd watch it again in a heartbeat.
OK summer movie. Takes a strecth to believe it, but it's the movies. Handled well enough, but not the sort of movie I'd run to watch again. Philadelphia looked great though.
Maybe a little to smart for it's own good. Yeah, if you like history, you need to check this one out. It's certainly original, which is rare these days. Juston Bartha's charecter, Riley, gave me and my friends a new catch phrase: "Albuquerque! See, I can do it too."
